"Hmmm, thou shalt not kill... I wonder what He was getting at with that one?"
I understand your concern. However, there are two circumstances when I do agree with abortion. One, if the woman has been raped. Two, in the case of incest. Other than those two you should not be able to arbitrarily abort the child. How you find a way to make it work I cannot answer that one. I happen to be a believer in Christ too. I am not Catholic or any other affiliated choice though. Just my two cents. It's not as straight forward as people think. Especially considering that most of the time it's men that are writing the law and do not understand what women are going through. I happen to be male by the way.
Because of our fallen nature and the presence of original sin, there are circumstances surrounding every child that comes into this world which are less than ideal... that never justifies abortion. The grave evil of rape and incest do not in any way justify the more horrendous evil of taking an innocent human life. To propose that aborting a woman who has been sexually assaulted and stripped of so much of her dignity already is to suggest that two wrongs do make a right. Once you start down the path of moral relativism, pretty much anything can be justified, given the right "circumstances".ps. I have a friend who was conceived in rape. I can't imagine looking him in his eyes and telling him that he is trash, that he doesn't deserve to be here because of his father's sin, that his mother would have found healing after her rape had she then been coerced into murder. Can you?
This planned first act of Obama's is a key reason why I can't support him, despite appreciating other aspects of his political philosophy. He would not only maintain the legality of abortion, he would strengthen it. While I can conceive of instances in which a pro-choice candidate could actually be better for the unborn than a pro-life candidate, an Obama presidency doesn’t look to be among them. That said, I don't trust McCain on the issue one bit.
